On August 26, 2021, I came in to work at 6:00am as usual to find a TeamViewer notification on my laptop computer from a certain "Edward" (probably not a real name) requesting access to my desktop. I simply clicked "deny" and went about my day. You see, we open at 8:00am and I routinely arrive two hours early because those two hours are my "creative time" to compose 3D scenes and make my art. It became apparent, however, that something was horribly wrong when more people started showing up to work and were unable to log in to their computers due to "Edward" disabling their workstations. In fact, out of the twenty computers at my company's branch in San Antonio, Texas, my laptop was the only computer that was still functioning. As the day progressed, it became known that, across all eight branches of the company spanning the southern United States, only four computers were still functioning.
